På staden eg vaks opp, Naustdal, regner det meir enn i Bergen. Likevel føles det ikkje slik. Det verker for meg å vere meir ustabilt i vestlandshovudstaden. Ein typisk dag i Naustdal (eventuelt Førde der eg gjekk på gymnas) var prega av solskinn, overskya vær _eller_ regnvær. Sjeldan alle deler på ein dag, som tilfelle ofte er i Bergen.
Eg og familien min var ein tur på akvariet i dag. Veret var strålande, berre eg og pingvinane kunne tenke seg eit par grader kaldare luft. Og det fekk vi, samt striregn av våtaste sort. Pensjonist prøver profilering av praksis i psykologi
Eg ville berre seie at eit passe stort og passe seriøst kommunikasjonsbyrå i Norge har utvikla denne nettsida som burde handle om psykiatri og psykoterapi i Sogn og Fjordane. Dessutan nervøs lidelse, nervelidelse, psykologisk, nevrose, psykiatri, behandling, psykisk lidelse og arnulf gjestland. Etter å ha snakka med dei og vore litt irritert på dei for eit noko slett resultat for ein forholdsvis stor sum pengar (5500+1500), lovar dei bot og betring. Dei skal faktisk vederlagsfritt oppgradere den "ferdige" webløysinga. Men det nemnast også frå deira rådgjevar at det har vore manglande innhalds- og lenkestrategi. Eg har iallefall laga eit par lenker no. Så får vi sjå.... eg kjem tilbake med meir om det skulle vise seg naudsynt. Inntil då tata.

Inspirert av at Martin publiserer oppskrift på pizza kjem eg med min versjon. Forskjellen er først og fremst at eg lager meir enn Martin - restane deler eg opp og fryser ned - og tar med meg til lunsj på jobben. Pizzabitane tiner frå morgon til lunsj, deretter får dei ein omgang i mikroen.
Deig:
Deigen lagast med 6 dl vatn og 50g gjær. Bruk grovt mjøl eller havregryn, men minst 50% fint mjøl i pizzabotnen. Lar deigen heve 1/2 til 1 time, del i to, kjevlast ut eller dras ut til to store steikebrett. Etterhevast litt om du gidd.
Fyll:
Steik...
1 kjøttdeig eller anna kjøtt, krydres etter smak.
1-2 løk (gjerne raud!) hakkast og steikast i lag med kjøttdeigen
Bland i følgjande...
2 boksar hermetiske tomater
1 liiten boks tomatpure, bland med 1-2 teskei sukker for å utjamne den litt sure smaken.
La det gjerne surre litt for å få mindre vassen pizza!
Etter koking... velg og vrak...
-boks med hermetisk mais
-sopp i skiver, helst fersk
-paprika i glade fargar
-tomatskiver
-ananas, elska og hata.
-oregano, basilikum, kvitløk, etc.
+Ost på toppen!
Steikeovnen på 200-225 grader i 20-25 min til osten er gylden....

Mysteriet rundt 500-kronerseddelen
Har du tilgang til mirsoskop med mange hundre gonger forstørrelse? Ikkje eg heller til vanleg, men Kjersti, søstra mi som går på medisin, har det. Og i lag med ho og Gunnar, ein av brødrene mine, observerte vi noko interessant for nokre veker sidan. Kanskje ein smule nerdete til at det er spennande for alle, men like fullt interessant for dei som fascinerast av merkelege billedlege fenomen.
Biletet vedlagt (trykk på det for full størrelse) er forstørra 400 (eller var det 800?) gonger, det som er forstørra er iris på det eine auget til Sigrid Undset, sjå i Wikipedia for meir detaljar, evt overblikk over seddelen.
Eg vil faktisk ikkje seie kva eg ser i biletet, vil ikkje legge ord i munnen på deg. Tar gjerne imot kommentar her. Eg meiner bestemt eg ser noko, det same meinte Gunnar og Kjersti. Etter litt oppklarande diskusjon viste det seg at vi såg ulike ting. Så altså, kva ser du?

I'm one of those. Nerd Attention Deficiency Disorder. I'm not exactly like "Rands". I don't have to listen to music while doing several other things at once. I just have to do several things at once. And I have a short attention span, I like to work on several things at once, "multitasking" between them all the time. I guess I have to do as the blogpost concludes with: "Embrace my handicap"....

Buggy quicktime or buggy me?
I've added this to the FAQ on vided.org:
Q: I've got problems with playing video projects, or sound is randomly disappearing while viewing a project ?!?
A: So do I one some systems. I can't find the reason for this. The problems only appears while playing SMIL, the single mpeg4 clips all work fine. The version of your Quicktime viewer is essential. Version 6.52 works quite good, usually, but it's having a few problems with sound randomly going quiet. Bug in Quicktime? Moving the progress bar back and forth again fixes this, for unknown reason, but this is a quite bad "solution" of a quite annoying problem. Version 7.0x has worked flawlessly on my development system, also regarding the sound issue mentiones, while on other computers, it's reporting about "can't find video clip" even though the clip exists at mentioned URL. I don't have access to a lot of Macs, I don't know if they are better or worse. I'm looking at the problem, but it's quite complicated, and I can't manage to reproduce it on different computers. If I've got Firefox 1.07 and Quicktime 7.03 on two computers, one might work fine, while the other computer has problems. This is a cry for help, I guess, in my own FAQ. What is factor X, resulting in these problems?
There are three different problems. Problem 1 is most annoying!
1. Video clips reported to not exist, even though they DO exist. SOME of the tested QT7.0x only. Reinstalling QT7 does not have any effect.
2. Sound disappearing. Qt6.52 only.
3. Subtitles. Not looked into this problem thorough enough. It worked once, now there's problems.
Are you affected? Try this test project. It's a project consisting of a short video, a picture with music in the background, ending with a short video, music still playing. Give me a comment please. Any problems? Which problem? Give me details of your system: OS, browser, QT version - and the unknown factor X, if you happen to know about it! :-)

This is a film made using webcam pictures taken through my office window. I'm looking down at Jon Lunds plass, which I've earlier pointed out was the location where first (known) videoblog entry ever on November 27, 2000, by Adrian Miles, was recorded.
Webcam pictures each minute, 25fps, 2004-05-28_18:34:23 -> 2004-05-31_15:04:19.
I'm using MEncoder for this, here's the command line if anyone is interested:
mencoder mf://*.jpg -mf type=jpg -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -vop expand=320:240,scale=320:-2 -nosound -ofps 25 -o output.avi

The last few days I've been adding links to the left main menu of vided.org. This means anyone can upload video files to be encoded. And view existing videos in the library.
Also, the search routines have been redone, this time all searches are automatically wildcarded. In other words, if you search for "e", you will basicly get all videos listed.... maybe not a future-proof solution, but I can just limit the max number of search hits at a later stage... if the server begins to struggle....

I'm talking about the name, vided. Why?
Three main reasons:
-VIDEo, obviously
-EDucation, I hope it will be used in this setting
-EDiting, the ability to edit video
Also:
-EDitor of your own website
-Because vided isn't a real word according to Webster's and dictionary.com
With a little goodwill:
-VID means wide, extensive in Norwegian
-Could potentially be a word, like googled: "I've already vided the filmclips, dad" :-p

Har faktisk implementert kode som syr sammen greiene med B2Evolution, noko som er nært beslekta med Wordpress som du nevner. Det funka greit, men eg kutta det ut likevel. Eg vil gjerne lære meg saker og ting sjølv, og wordpress/b2evolution blir litt overkill i forhold til "målgruppa" meiner no eg iallefall. Dette er ikkje meininga å skulle bli eit system for ...øøhhh.. DEG, men heller ...resten av klassen din? Forhåpentligvis kan systemet også vekse i lag med brukargruppa.
Var også innom jorgis.com og las litt av foruminnlegga dine på hw-nettverket samt artiklar etc. Mykje bra greier.
Når det gjeld strekking av "den svarte boksen" i IE, takk for tipset, bruker mest firefox/opera i utvikling, og bruker lite tid til bugtracking... dårlig unnskyldning kanskje. Majortabbe å ikkje sjekke f.eks. signup i IE før fredag også.
Streng tatt er systemet framleis "alpha", men som sagt er det konseptet som skal prøvast ut. Og eg både trur og reknar med at det er få andre enn deg sjølv som faktisk saknar quote-funksjon. For det er streng tatt meir ein nerdefunksjon enn noko anna. Men nok om det, eg skal ta ein ny gjennomgang av bl.a. wordwrap og parsing på nytt. Og ein del andre bugs eg har notert. Skal ikkje nevne alle her, men det er f.eks. ein stygg bug i samme klasse som parsinga når du editerer ein blogpost, samt upload er ikkje heilt trygt!

THIS looks like a killer phone/(video)camera for vided.org or vlogging in general.
It's insane: VGA video (my current IXUS 400/Elph only shoots 320*240), TV-out(!), MP3-playback, 16+ million color display, mini SD card slot as well as USB cord slot, you can manually select exposure time, ISO, flash, timer for photographs, video is mpeg4 format it looks like, with up to 44KHz sound.
Bad points include no email functionality, short battery-life, no T9 (have another "intelligent" prediction system). Also no bluetooth and a less-than-perfect GUI.

I told the students that replying to my own posting would be somewhat pathetic, but now I'm doing it anyway :-). I talked and showed the system as well as a couple of vlogs for like 7-8 minutes. I talked about vided.org and videoblogging and was hoping for some of the students to want to try vided.org, or even go to like www.videoblogging.info to explore their possibilities on their own. All in all, I got to way a lot. I'm still not completely satisfied with my talk, for several reasons.
1. Unclear; what do I really want from you? (I want to inform, encourage, and I want you to try vided.org. And world peace.)
2. Why not give the students a webpage where they could sign up right away? Good idea, but I want the students to fill out a questionnaire _before_ they start using vided.org. This isn't finished yet, I'm sorry! (signup is coming to a webpage near you THIS WEEK).
3. I'm not experienced in talking to like 150 students. I hope my nervousity wasn't too obvious...
OK. What I would want to talk more about was:
1. Vlogging as a new medium, new possibilites, enabling vodcasts in iTunes as well as FireANT. And possibly also directly to your living room TV in a few years time.
2. I would describe vlogging/vided.org as an excellent tool for a media student for learning about media, publishing, getting responses, cooperative editing, getting better at writing.
3. The vlog community. The creativity. The fantastic work that's beeing done both by programmers and media creators.
Hopefully, I will get the chance when appearing at a few study-groups, as well as a few actually reading this.

Opera Mini
I've tried the new Opera Mini. I've read a couple of reviews of it, and it hasn't exactly been praised. But it works for me, even though I have a small 128*128 screen on my Nokia 6230. I even tried vided.org on it, and... well of course it is a lot of work navigating here and there, but it actually works nicely. Highly recommended by me!
I don't know if I'm allowed to publish the address to the Norwegian download here. But on the net, the rule "better safe than sorry" doesn't apply. Her goes: http://mini.opera.com/tv2/. It's a 60KB download
The starting page is locked to a Norwegian broadcaster, TV2.

If you can't make it good, make it look good
Today I've been messing around with CSS stuff again. I'm certainly a beginner, but I'm starting to learn. Bear in mind that I'll never be good at design, but as noone voluntered to help me out, I had to improve the rather ...uhm.. crippled design. I also changed the video editing user interface, you no longer need to scroll horizontally, it's more like a cartoon now.

I guess you all know about http://ag.vided.org/rss. I've also created another XML test:
This works in iTunes, just select Subscribe to Podcast from the Advanced menu. Enter the URL http://ag.vided.org/podcasts/ and click OK. You're done.
Remember it's a test stream, not all fields are complete, etc.
Update: You need at least iTunes 4.9 to do this. You also might need to press one or two of the five buttons on your down left corner in iTunes in order to view the video. One (the fourth button) is labelled "show or hide song artwork" for some reason. It will show the videos in stamp-format. The other one (the fifth button) is for fullscreen showing.

Further progress
There's still a few bugs to fix. I know I _should_ look into them before I continue to make more code filled with bugs. (But it's more fun to make more functions) There's also one feature that is really bad and should be improved -captioning.
Another feature I would like is audio support, and possibility to choose audio track for each project. And it should also be possible to cut the video in both ends, unlike now when you can only cut the last bit out.
Anyway, after these features are more or less finished, I urgently need eager and helpful people willing to try vlogging through this web-service. I hope that will happen in less than a couple of weeks, but time will show....

Status report end of July
As I promised a couple of weeks ago, erh, I mean a couple of months ago, I've made a "smarter user interface for users". OK, nok very smart, but I'm on my way. My other promises has all been lies; e.g. I've not implemented further trackback capabilities.
But these issues has been taken care of:
* Major tidying of code, less mess (still a long way to go)
* Less code means less bugs
* Nicer-looking blog/vlog (at least I think so)
* Better editing features, still not exactly pretty, but I might fix that.
* New menu on the side including ability to show last video/text/picture posts. These are also listed on every vlog (by force, how do you like that?)
* Hmm, and several other things you don't want to know about... (minor technical things, etc.)
I'm also quite satisfied with the new ubuntu system, there's no downtime yet (except for several caused-by-me-php-bugs downtime)

This is really funny. Today I was looking at the vlog-defeinition by Wikipedia. I randomly opened some pages, among those the "first (known) videoblog entry ever". The funny part is that the picture (it's not really a video) is showing the building where I'm sitting right now, and have been here for the last 1.5 years. (My window is approx 10m further left from the top left window.) This can't be by chance, it has to be "meant to be"! ;-)
